will be trained for jobs in the
business process outsourcing (BPO)
industry. This one year diploma
course will be offered by IGNOU
in alliance with Bangalore’s
global technology service and outsourcing
company, Accenture Services. Speaking
about this course, the IGNOU spokesman
Ravi Mohan said, ‘You know
the BPO situation in our country.
It’s a growing industry and
the number of trained manpower required
is huge. Here we have stepped in
to provide trained human capital.’
Mohan further remarked that IGNOU
has already inked an agreement with
Accenture and that students who
have completed their 10+2 can apply
for this course. Ravi Mohan pointed
out that the BPO job does not just
pertain to foreign firms, but also
Indian ones. He said that even government
offices have either opened or are
going to open call centres for enhanced
customer relationship.
‘This course will create a
pool of professionals who will be
able to handle the job better and
reduce attrition rate,’ Mohan
added. Those who take up this BPO
course will undoubtedly have an
edge in communication skills over
others. But then students will also
alternatively get screened through
a communication evaluation test.
Under this course specialization
will be offered in finance and accounting,
insurance, banking, human resources,
sourcing and category management,
customer contact services, health
care, pharma, engineering services,
equity research and so on.
